How to properly group keywords with Keyword Grouper in Komondor PPC Software

For a quick and meaningful separation of keywords into groups, it is necessary to highlight the keyword-markers that determine the point of the entire phrase. For example, in the keywords “software for analytics” and “software for marketing” markers will be “analytics” and “marketing”, because these are the words that determine the difference between phrases.

The marker-based keyword splitting can occur for one or few campaigns, depending on budget and strategy. For each type of business, marker words can be different.

Within the same keyword list, you can have different sets of markers. For example, in some words the markers will be product types (like “analytics” and “marketing”), while in others they will be geo (“US” and “Australia”). Some markers are of higher priority (i.e., more significant for high-quality targeting), some are less.

The principle of grouping keywords based on marker words

We propose the following most general marker word structure, the order of which can be changed based on the specifics of the project:

  1. Basic synonyms.
  2. Competitor terms.
  3. Geo.
  4. Action words.
  5. The cost of a service or product.
  6. The type of service or product.
  7. Audience type.
  8. Time of service or product provision.
  9. The quality of the service or product.

Let’s look at splitting keywords into groups using the example of an English language school for the Keyword Grouper tool in Komondor PPC Software.

How to group keywords in Komondor PPC Software

  • First, you need to select the data to be grouped.
  • Then you need to define:
    • The keywords with what frequency do you want to place in separate groups (in this case, we suggest frequency above 300).
    • What is the maximum number of words in 1 group (we recommend no more than 5).
  • Then we can form a list of words.
  • After we have formed a general list of words, we need to control the quality of the collected words:
    • Check if our list contains words that got there by mistake, and remove them if necessary. For example, we collect semantics only for Ukraine and we do not need other locations.
  • We ignore words that do not affect the meaning of phrases (in, on, s, y, etc.) to make the grouping process more accurate.
  • After checking the quality, we can proceed to the allocation of synonyms to combine words similar in meaning, for example, Онлайн и online или Киев и Киеве.
  • Once you’ve identified your synonyms, you can begin to rank your keywords. At this stage, it is necessary to define marker words and prioritize them:
    • Basic word synonyms:
      • School.
      • Courses.
  • Geolocation:
    • Kiev.
    • Odessa.
    • Dnepropetrovsk, etc.
  • Competitor queries.
  • Action words.
  • Product type.
  • Audience type.
  • Cost.
  • Service delivery time.
  • Then the words can be grouped and you can check the result.

Groups can be downloaded in any match type and immediately used for advertising campaigns. So Komondor saves 50%+ time on creating advertising so you can deal with more strategic processes;)
